Course Duration
The acronym "MCA" stands for "Master of Computer Applications," which is a postgraduate program designed to equip students with comprehensive knowledge and skills related to computer programs, application software, computer architecture, operating systems, and various other aspects of computing. This two-year course provides a deep understanding of computer-related concepts and prepares students for a wide range of careers in the IT industry. Throughout the program, students gain expertise in programming, software development, and computer systems, empowering them to excel in the dynamic and rapidly evolving world of technology.
MCA admissions follow two main pathways: direct admission through management quota and entrance examinations. To be eligible for the MCA course, candidates must meet certain minimum criteria. This includes holding a Bachelor's degree in Computer Applications (BCA) or a related field. Additionally, candidates must have studied mathematics as a compulsory subject during their Class 12 education. Meeting these eligibility requirements opens the door for prospective students to pursue the Master of Computer Applications program and further enhance their knowledge and expertise in the realm of computer science and technology.
In the 545th Meeting of the University Grants Commission (UGC) convened in December 2019, a significant decision was made to shorten the duration of the Master of Computer Applications (MCA) program from three years to two years. Starting from the academic session of 2020-21, MCA courses across institutions will be conducted as a two-year postgraduate program. This decision aims to streamline and optimize the academic journey for MCA students, enabling them to complete their studies in a more time-efficient manner while gaining essential skills and knowledge in computer applications and related disciplines.
